“Guess The Trooper Song” Contest

Spring has sprung..
It’s high time for some fun…..

We are proud to announce that Canada’s legendary band “Trooper” likes Leave Them Laughing and we love their music!  Carla Zilbersmith, the hero of our film, had already rocked out to Trooper in high school. One of Trooper’s songs accompanies one of the film’s most beautiful, vibrant scenes. Can you guess which song it might be?  Many great prizes, including 2 VIP/meet and greet the band at a future concert and meet and greet Academy Award-winning director John Zaritsky at the World Premiere of Leave Them Laughing at Hot Docs in Toronto on May 6/8 or at a future screening of the film.

A bit about Trooper:
Millions of records, a couple dozen hits, sold-out coliseums across Canada, a Juno Award (Canada’s Grammy) for Band of the Year. The Vancouver Sun called them “Canadian rock heroes of the first order … the best performing band in Canada.”
The great reviews continue. In 2009, Peter Assaff of the Northern Light hailed Ra McGuire and Brian Smith as “the Canadian version of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards” and Joel Rubinoff of The Record wrote: ” … this frolicking, rollicking showcase for McGuire’s soaring pop melodies and whimsical wordplay is arguably one of the biggest Canadian bands of all time.”
They’ve backed up a who’s who of Rock including Aerosmith, AC/DC, Steppenwolf, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac, Jeff Beck, REO, Styx, and many others.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Trooper has become a Canadian legend.

  • Trooper is very proud of our involvement with Leave Them Laughing, and we wish John, Montana and Carla the best of success with it at Hot Docs next month!

  • Ryan kiedrowski

Is the song ‘raise a little hell?’ this is a so g that I have also chosen
    for
    bothu wedding and funeral!
    Thx!

  • Is it ‘We’re Here For a Good Time (Not a Long Time)’?

A perfect song for a wedding, funeral, or any old day. ;)

  • Catherine Sidle

“We’re Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)” Good song and very true, perfect for weddings and funerals.

  • Jesslyn Buss

I would guess “We’re Here For A Good Time”. I think it fits any social function, wedding or funeral. I’m a huge REO Speedwagon fan….my husband Jim is a true Music Man…knows all kinds of music and plays guitar. He turned me on to Trooper and I LOVE THEM!!! I almost feel guilty when I put in Trooper over REO! Both really good, tight bands with a great sound and wonderful lyrics.

    thanks
    Jess

  • montanaberg01

We love them too – and so does Carla, the hero of our film. Can’t wait for you to see the scene!

  • [...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Trooper and Heather Uhl, DI AMONDI. DI AMONDI said: RT @trooper_band: Guess what Trooper song was used by Oscar-winner @JohnZaritsky in his new film and win a VIP Meet & Greet. Contest at http://bit.ly/cA8N8a [...]

My guess is “We’re Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)” It’s quite appropriate to be played at both a wedding and a funeral. I’m not sure which of the grand prizes I would choose. I do know I wouldn’t mind either the Trooper Hot Shots (Greatest Hits) CD, or the autographed copy of John Zaritsky’s recent Gemini Award winning film “The Wild Horse Redemption”.

  • Dennis G

I would think a great song would be “The Moment that it Takes”. Appreciate what we have.

  • gord Wiens

Above picks almost seem to obvious, I’ll say PRETTY LADY, a great wedding song for the newlyweds to dance to. And also a perfect tribute for a lost loved one! As far as a prize , I would definetely pick a meet and greet with the band!

  • Jesslyn Buss

I’m sticking with my original guess…although I admit “Pretty Lady” crossed my mind, too. “We’re Here For A Good Time” is a great reminder to enjoy life…the little moments as well as the big…and not to sweat the small stuff, because “we’re here for a good time, not a long time….” At a funeral it could help you remember the good times you shared with your loved one and at a wedding it’s a great way to say value one another; love one another; enjoy life together.

No doubt about which prize I’d like: Tickets to a Trooper concert/meet and greet. Other than that….I’d love a T-shirt!!!

  • Well… from the clues, I would think “We’re Here For A Good Time” …but from (a long time ago) knowing Carla… I’m going with my original thought…
    Raise A Little HELL” LOL

  • montanaberg01

Bob, you seem to know Carla well – she does indeed love to ‘raise a little hell!’ but……is that the song we included in the film? Stay tuned for more clues!

  • montanaberg01

Gord – we do have a very brief wedding scene in the film, but I’m not saying that it’s the scene the Trooper song is in. Pretty Lady is beautiful song, that’s for sure!

  • montanaberg01

Dennis; here is what a recent audience member had to say about Leave Them Laughing, “The movie is a true inspiration. I now cherish everything I took for granted an hour ago.” — Jenny, 24, waitress. Yes, we should indeed appreciate what we have. Great song! Could it be the one in the film? Keep checking those clues!

  • Jack Reed

All the answers so far are really good, and some didn’t occur to me until i saw them, and went. “oh, man, yeah…that’s a good one too.” I’m torn between Pretty Lady and We’re here for a good time. But Pretty Lady would only work at a funeral for a female, so I’m going to have to go with We’re here for a good time.

  • Mary Jo Winkler-Callighen

Only one possibility: We’re here for a good time (not a long time). Okay, so I love Trooper, and I LOVE that song! But really, what else could it be? And if you had asked me to recommend a great song for the movie (and I needn’t remind you of your oversight in that regard!) I would have thrown it in your eager ears without hesitation or regret.
Now I can appreciate that, yes,you made the right decision without my input, but can you really take that chance again? You’ve got my e-mail now.
I’d love any of the fabulous prizes, but my preference is the World Premiere, although I would have to experience it vicariously, as I am no longer able to travel unaccompanied, and I would be shocked to find somebody to help me there and back. Can I transfer any prize to my beloved movie fan daughter (who also wears an ALS bracelet 24/7, and is magnificent at relaying script, camera angles and so on in marvellous detail)? In any case, I demand to be able to buy the dvd asap, because I am going down at a steady pace rather quickly, and I refuse to die until I have seen Leave Them Laughing!

  • montanaberg01

Mary, Trooper has so many great songs – it must be very hard to guess which one we chose. Yes, you could absolutely transfer your prize to your daughter. Just because you can’t travel we don’t want you to feel left out. Drop us an email with your address and we’ll be happy to send you a copy of the film.

  • montanaberg01

Jack, Gord says Pretty Lady is a great wedding song for newlyweds to dance to. Hmmmmmm, wedding or funeral?

  • Liam Turner

As an Owner of a Trooper Discography That is Signed by Ra and Brian, I’d Totally go for the Meet and Greet with trooper and the concert of them.

    As for song…

Lets look, Some of the guesses so far are amazing ones.

For my first guess, Lets side with Pretty Lady.

Though at my own wedding I think She’s so Sweet will be played somehow somewhere

  • Don Derraugh

We’re here for a good time (not a long time). Trooper rocked Strathmore when they played here a couple of years ago.

  • Don Derraugh

The Moment That It Takes was my first guess …… one of the first songs that I liked by Trooper. Look forward to hearing which song is the one in the movie !

  • montanaberg01

Don – look forward to posting the scene one week from today. It’s one of my favorites. I’ll never forget the day when we filmed it!

  • Don Derraugh

Thank you. Two For the Show was the first song I really liked, and I remember playing a “mean” air guitar to Gypsy Wheeler. I’m looking forward to you posting the scene in a week.

  • My Guess is “We’re Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)” based solely on the clues and the undeniable fact that everytime anyone hears that song they start to sing along and immediately get happy…and who doesn’t want to be happy!!

  • montanaberg01

Jon – that song sure makes me want to sing along everytime I hear it. Yes, we absolutely all want to be happy. Hope you’re having a happy day!

  • Thomas Siekmann

I believe that the song is “We’re here for a good time (not a long time)”

  • Daniel McNamara

Is the song “Two for the Show”….I think.

  • Craig Heckman

I have no idea, but I’m going to guess that the song is “Good Clean Fun”.

  • RAE

WERE HERE FOR A GOOD TIME…WOW… WHAT A GREAT LIFE CURVE

  • Colleen Cole

I thought I had posted this guess on the weekend…but since I don’t see it in the thread. I was leaning toward something a little more obscure: “If I Never See Your Face Again”. The lyrics seem to fit with the clues so far, but I would personally use something that had radio play, if you were going for recognition.

I’m in Toronto, so it wouldn’t matter the prize, as long as it is something I can attend in Toronto.

Good luck everyone, this is fun!

  • mr chris

good time its the only song

  • Kim LePage

“We’re here for a good time not a long time”. Way back in the late 70’s my sister had a girls band and trooper was always around. They played in this club in New Westminster. They were probably watching the sun come up after playing a club downtown. My reason for picking this song is no matter what happens in your life enjoy what you have now. Don’t dwell on what you can’t change. Celebrate life.

  • Jesslyn Buss

Still sticking with my original guess but I need to change my prize request: hubby pointed out we would have a hard time traveling to Canada for a concert and we wouldn’t want someone that could attend to miss out, so how ’bout a Trooper T-shirt? Thanks and have enjoyed reading all the comments.

  • montanaberg01

Kim – I moved to Burnaby in ‘79. Those were the days! Can’t believe it’s so long ago! I totally agree, we should all be celebrating life every day, no matter what! If Carla, the hero of our film can do it, we all can!

  • Carol Topalian

“We’re Here for a Good Time”
Myself and my friend and bandmate Gerry Andrews, keyboard player extraordinaire, played a cover of this song for a summer party with a bunch of friends. A month ago, it was playing at Gerry’s memorial service. Gerry, love you forever man! And if I win the Trooper concert tickets (my preference) I will say hello to the band for you buddy!

  • Liam Turner

The new clues have made me want to shift to
Here for a good time (not a long time)
Petty lady is too slow and smoochy for songs

  • montanaberg01

Good move. How is that for a tip? More clues coming up. 4 days to go.

  • danny poole

It has to be here for a good time i have rocked to that one at weddings great song

  • Kylie Mantei

We’re Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)
I hope this is the right place to submit an entry!

  • montanaberg01

Kylie; it sure is! Great guess!

  • I think the song is “We’re Here for a Good Time” because she is having a great time in that picture and with ALS she won’t have a long time.

  • Well that last clue is a bit of a curve ball, but I think I’ll be sticking with my original guess waaaay back at the top, hehe. :)

A very good friend of mine, told me something… *walks away whistling*

  • montanaberg01

Just curious – what makes you think the last clue is a ‘bit of a curve ball?’ Thinks lyrics (hint, hint). So, what’s your guess and what prize are you interested in winning?

  • Just kidding about the curve ball (since it was pretty obvious with the final clue), hehe. :)

Of course I think I’ll stick with my original guess, ‘We’re Here For a Good Time (Not a Long Time)’. Any prize would be awesome, although I wouldn’t be able to make it to Toronto, so I guess that rules out that prize. I’d *love* VIP Trooper tickets if they’re for any city (I’m in Winnipeg), but a nice t-shirt is cool, too.

  • gord Wiens

is it too late to change my pick to Were here For A Good Time[Not A Long Time] ?!

  • Christine

Tally Ho! Hope all goes well on the red carpet!

  • montanaberg01

Hey Gord – good choice! Picking winners out of a hat as we speak. Thanks for playing!

  • montanaberg01

Hey Christine – thanks for your good wishes. Looking forward to seeing you in Toronto!!!
